Beyond technical functionality, the company focuses on individuality, quality, and design.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1867\" data-end=\"2359\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reproducing the natural movements of the human body poses an extraordinary challenge. Skin, wrinkles, elasticity, and the organic shape of a hand have no exact equivalent in artificial materials. In the case of the \u201cMichelangelo\u201d hand prosthesis, the challenge was not only technical but also aesthetic: designing a cover that would allow mobility, integrate functional wrinkles, and provide the most realistic appearance possible, even reproducing details such as the structure of the veins.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.5&#8243; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; min_height=&#8221;226.1px&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;||3px|||&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1784\" data-end=\"1828\">The prosthesis as a natural part of the body<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1830\" data-end=\"2083\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ottobock\u2019s current prostheses are complex mechatronic systems. In the case of leg prostheses, they incorporate microprocessors that detect whether the user is sitting or climbing stairs, automatically adjusting movement to ensure safety and naturalness.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2085\" data-end=\"2378\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Michelangelo prosthetic hand incorporates a wrist with a neutral position that allows smoother movement, reducing the feeling of stiffness. However, when attempting to redesign the external cover to make it even more realistic, the CAD system used by the Ottobock group reached its limits.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2380\" data-end=\"2640\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was then that, following the recommendation of partner EBM, the company opted for the <a href=\"https:\/\/cadtech.es\/en\/3dexperience-platform\/\">3DEXPERIENCE platform<\/a> and its freeform surface module <a href=\"https:\/\/cadtech.es\/en\/catia\/\">CATIA<\/a> Imagine &amp; Shape. The challenge lies in balancing technical requirements with fidelity to the organic form.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1985\" data-end=\"2272\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">CATIA Imagine &amp; Shape allowed designers to work with complex surfaces while ensuring continuity and smooth transitions between curves and adjacent surfaces. The stability of the model, even with small changes, gave the team greater confidence, enabling them to focus on modeling quality.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2274\" data-end=\"2531\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Direct surface manipulation through control points provided a much more intuitive and precise approach. Before incorporating CATIA Imagine &amp; Shape, the team had worked for two months on the new geometry of the Michelangelo hand shell without achieving the desired result.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1613\" data-end=\"1680\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">With the new solution, the model was completed in just three weeks.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1682\" data-end=\"1986\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since then, CATIA Imagine &amp; Shape has become Ottobock\u2019s strategic tool for surface modeling in all products where form is an essential factor.
