Dassault Systèmes has announced that Red Eléctrica, Spain’s high-voltage transmission system operator, has selected its cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform to coordinate the design of the smart energy grid. More than 1,500 users will be connected through a “multiscale” virtual twin to visualize the electrical asset ecosystem.
Cloud-based collaboration and a common data environment will drive efficiency and innovation, strengthening a resilient grid capable of integrating renewable energy sources.
Strategic coordination for a sustainable energy transition
As Spain’s transmission system operator, Red Eléctrica is a key pillar in the transition toward a decarbonized energy system. The company carries out this mission based on the principles of transparency, objectivity, independence, and economic efficiency, with a strong commitment to sustainability.
Dassault Systèmes’ “Integrated Built Environment” industry solution, based on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, will connect more than 1,500 stakeholders through a virtual twin to visualize the electrical asset ecosystem at different scales—from transmission lines spanning the entire territory to detailed equipment installed in substations.
This multiscale capability will enable Red Eléctrica to enhance collaboration and implement standardization practices with internal and external parties, providing real-time access to relevant and up-to-date data on assets within their geographic context.
Digital transformation of electrical assets
Using a single source of data will transform how Red Eléctrica designs and manages assets throughout their lifecycle, improving design quality and project management for both new installations and the modernization of transmission lines and substations.
“At Red Eléctrica, we are making a major investment and innovation effort in the transmission grid to meet the objectives defined in the Network Development Plan and enable the ecological transition. Therefore, following a competitive process, we have selected Dassault Systèmes as a partner on this journey,” said María Soler, Director of Transmission Technology at Red Eléctrica.
“By 2050, global electricity demand will increase by more than 160%. Meeting this demand requires accelerating the development of power grids capable of better integrating a diversified mix of low-carbon energy sources. Using virtual twins to simulate, test, and optimize electrical grids will help transmission operators improve collaboration, efficiency, and innovation, as well as operate the next generation of smart grids,” noted Rémi Dornier, Vice President of Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Industry at Dassault Systèmes.
A step forward toward sustainability
Red Eléctrica, one of Europe’s largest transmission operators, will work with Dassault Systèmes’ cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform to lead Spain’s transition toward a more sustainable energy system.
