Cheng Shin Tire, the manufacturer behind the Maxxis brand, uses Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform to connect its R&D centers, integrate design and simulation, and accelerate the development of tires for more efficient and sustainable mobility.

Tires play an increasingly important role in electric vehicle performance. The added weight of batteries, the need to reduce rolling resistance, and new expectations for acoustic comfort are pushing manufacturers to rethink materials, structures, and development processes.

To address these challenges, Cheng Shin Tire, the Taiwanese company behind the global Maxxis International brand, has moved its research and development activities to Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud.

The goal is to connect design, simulation, and data management to develop tires faster, improve international collaboration, and advance the use of more sustainable materials.

Five R&D Centers Connected on a Single Platform

Cheng Shin Tire operates five major research and development centers across Asia, Europe, and the United States.

Previously, teams worked with information stored in different systems, making project coordination and technical data sharing more difficult.

With 3DEXPERIENCE, the company now has a common environment that integrates CATIA for design, SIMULIA for simulation, and ENOVIA for product lifecycle management (PLM).

This connected approach enables teams to share information across R&D centers, track project progress, and maintain data traceability throughout the development of new tires.

Using cloud-based simulation in virtual tire development, we have seen analysis time reduced by around 60%, which helps us respond much faster to market demands.

60% Faster Analysis Through MODSIM

One of the project’s most significant results is the acceleration of simulation processes.

Using MODSIM, an approach that integrates modeling and simulation, Cheng Shin Tire can virtually evaluate different tire designs, materials, and compounds before conducting physical tests.|

Cloud-based simulation allows engineers to run multiple scenarios in parallel, access computing resources on demand, and combine digital results with testing performed at the company’s facilities.

This integration helps shorten development cycles without replacing physical testing, which remains essential for validating tire performance and safety.

New Materials, Sustainability, and Artificial Intelligence

Maxxis’ digital transformation also responds to evolving material technologies and environmental requirements.

The company is working with bio-based alternatives, including materials derived from rice husks and sunflower seeds, as well as recycled plastics and fishing nets, to reduce the environmental impact of its products.

At the same time, it is beginning to incorporate artificial intelligence and machine learning to explore more design alternatives, analyze compounds, and move toward simulations with greater predictive capabilities.

Cheng Shin Tire’s ambition is to gradually extend this digital continuity beyond R&D, connecting manufacturing, supply chain, and quality operations.

The Maxxis customer story demonstrates how integrating design, simulation, and data on 3DEXPERIENCE can accelerate industrial innovation, supporting the development of more efficient products tailored to the evolving needs of mobility.
