The aerospace startup is using Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform to develop the EVIO-810, a hybrid-electric regional aircraft with seating for up to 80 passengers. Thanks to a connected digital environment, its engineers can work on the complete aircraft model and explore its design through virtual reality before building the first physical prototype.
How can an astronaut walk through an aircraft that hasn’t been built yet?
Chris Hadfield, former commander of the International Space Station, did just that during a visit to EVIO’s facilities in Montreal. Wearing a virtual reality headset, he explored the future EVIO-810 at full scale using the actual engineering model developed on 3DEXPERIENCE.
The experience demonstrates how this startup is leveraging Dassault Systèmes technology to tackle the development of a new generation of regional aircraft.
A Hybrid-Electric Aircraft to Transform Regional Aviation
EVIO is developing the EVIO-810, a 76-to-80-seat aircraft that combines electric propulsion with fuel-powered turbines.
Its goal is to reduce fuel consumption and emissions on regional flights, operate in all-electric mode on short routes and during airport operations, and provide passengers with a quieter, more comfortable experience.
To manage the complexity of this project, EVIO has adopted 3DEXPERIENCE on the cloud through the 3DEXPERIENCE for Startups program.
The platform brings together 3D design, data management with ENOVIA, and collaboration tools in a single environment, replacing the company’s previous shared-file system and improving change traceability.
The 3DEXPERIENCE platform allows us to open the entire aircraft in less than a minute. Now we can see everything and work in context, looking at where the parts, assemblies, and systems connect. This helps us prevent problems early on.
The Entire Aircraft, Accessible in Under One Minute
One of the most significant benefits is how quickly engineers can access the aircraft’s digital model.
Previously, they had to work with individual components and assemblies because loading the complete aircraft took too long. Now, 3DEXPERIENCE allows them to open the entire aircraft in under one minute.
Working from a single source of truth also helps improve coordination between teams, manage changes, and identify potential integration issues early in the development process.

Virtual Reality to Validate the Design Before Manufacturing
EVIO also uses 3DEXPERIENCE to bring its engineering model into a full-scale virtual reality environment.
Engineers can walk through the cabin, check clearances, examine the batteries, and review the integration of propulsion systems without building a physical prototype.
This technology also makes it easier to present the project to potential customers, suppliers, and investors, as demonstrated by Chris Hadfield’s visit.
With the EVIO-810 concept now defined, the company is focusing on developing its hybrid propulsion system and the technologies needed to move the program into its next stages.
EVIO’s story demonstrates how 3DEXPERIENCE enables an aerospace startup to manage a highly complex project, connecting design, collaboration, and virtual validation on a single platform.
