Agriculture faces a dual challenge: increasing productivity while reducing its environmental impact.
In India, where millions of farms still rely on diesel-powered tractors, Moonrider aims to accelerate the transition to more sustainable agriculture with a new generation of electric tractors.
But developing an entirely new vehicle—including batteries, electrical systems, and powertrain architecture—required a platform capable of bringing together design, simulation, and innovation within a single environment.
The answer was the 3DEXPERIENCE platform from Dassault Systèmes.
From Concept to Prototype in Record Time
Moonrider designs every critical component of its electric tractors in-house, from the chassis to the high-voltage battery packs.
Using CATIA, engineers develop multiple vehicle variants tailored to the needs of different markets and customers.
They then use integrated simulations to validate structural strength, vibration reduction, and battery thermal performance before manufacturing a single physical component.
We can now design our tractors from concept to prototype in less than 40 days. That’s the potential the platform gives us.
Simulation for More Confident Design Decisions
One of the biggest challenges in developing an electric tractor is designing its battery system.
Moonrider is developing a 384-volt architecture, significantly higher than what is typically used in other light electric vehicles, making it essential to carefully validate every design decision.
The platform’s simulation capabilities make it possible to analyze battery thermal behavior, battery life, and the vehicle’s structural performance before building the first prototypes.
By running all of these simulations directly in the cloud, the company avoids investing in high-performance computing infrastructure and significantly accelerates the development process.

More Comfortable, Efficient, and Sustainable Tractors
In addition to reducing emissions, Moonrider aims to improve the experience of farmers.
Using simulation, the team has reduced vehicle vibrations by optimizing the chassis design, improving comfort during long days of work in the field.
At the same time, the platform enables engineering teams to collaborate using a single shared digital model, regardless of where they are located.
Ready to Grow
Moonrider continues to expand its digital platform by adding PLM capabilities with ENOVIA, strengthening product traceability and change management as production volumes increase.
The company plans to continue advancing its electric tractors by incorporating new technologies such as autonomous vehicles and simulation-driven optimization, with the goal of expanding into international markets and contributing to a more efficient and sustainable future for agriculture.
